CPHAR Fellows Biographical InformationPeter ReedResearch AreaPeter Reed completed his dissertation in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education in the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Reed's work examined issues related to care provided to residents of assisted living facilities and nursing homes who have a diagnosis of dementia. This work was part of a project of the Program on Aging, Disability, and Long-term Care in the Sheps Center for Health Services Research called Dementia Care in Assisted Living and Nursing Homes. His faculty advisory committee for the CPHAR training program included Bob DeVellis, PhD, Victor Marshall, PhD, Betty Mutran, PhD, and Sheryl Zimmerman, PhD. EmploymentIn May, 2011, Dr. Reed was named Executive Director of Pioneer Network. Prior to this position, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Health Improvement, based in Sacramento, California.Other previous positions include Senior Director of Programs for the National Alzheimer's Association, and research associate at the Program on Aging, Disability and Long-Term Care. There, he worked on research that formed the basis of his dissertation on the quality of care provided to residents with dementia in long-term care facilities. He has also been a research associate for the Center on Minority Aging, based at the UNC Institute on Aging, a summer intern at the NIA Behavioral and Social Research Program, and a student intern in the Duke University Leadership in an Aging Society Program.
