Welcome!

The UNC Evaluation of the Jobs to Careers Program is well underway, with most initial site visits completed and a few more scheduled in the coming months. It has been a pleasure to visit each site and get to know your teams. We look forward to meeting with those of you still on our schedule. We appreciate all the work your evaluation liaisons and teams have put into making these site visits happen.

This newsletter contains information regarding our Frontline Healthcare Worker Questionnaires and how your team will be involved in delivery of the questionnaires. Please read on and direct any questions to our project staff at (919) 966-0496. As always, this newsletter is intended for you, so if you have any comments, suggestions, or ideas to make it more useful or informative, please share! Please feel free to contact our program manager, Sara Haviland, at haviland@unc.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

New Process: Frontline Healthcare Worker Questionnaires

Most of you have already experienced your initial site visit by the UNC Evaluation Team. During that visit we were able to interview key partners of your organization and conduct focus groups with a number of your staff members. These interviews and focus groups helped us understand the nature of the intervention and partnership, providing vital information for the evaluation of the program.

Now it is time for us to begin surveying the participating members of your first cohort and any identified comparison members. These surveys are crucial in helping us understand the issues and problems faced by frontline healthcare workers and to get a baseline snapshot that will be compared to data collected after training has been implemented.

Please notify our team when you have approximately one month left before you intend to start training your first (and each successive) cohort via email at jobs2careers@unc.edu or at (919) 966-0496. At that time, a member of the UNC Evaluation Team will contact you to discuss your site’s specific situation. The UNC Team member will collect your list of participating workers from you and discuss with you the process for determining a pool of comparison workers. Together, we will develop a plan for the dissemination and collection of the Frontline Healthcare Worker questionnaires at your site through the site liaison.

Following the telephone conversation, you will receive the questionnaires in the mail, along with the detailed instructions developed for you. A member of the UNC Evaluation Team will be available to you throughout this entire process should you have any questions or problems with the questionnaires. Thank you for making the initial site visits a successful and fluid process. We look forward to the same outcome with the Frontline Healthcare Worker Questionnaires.

Gentle Reminders

We Need Your Information!

Please remember, if any surveys or other evaluation information are left at your site during the initial site visit, to return that information to the UNC Evaluation Team’s office as soon as possible. Your information and opinions are important to us!

Mail them to: Matthew Edison, c/o Jobs to Careers Evaluation, 720 Martin Luther King Blvd., CB# 1030, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-1030. Fax: (919) 966-0510

Coming Soon: Site Visit Memos

Some sites have already received review copies of our team’s initial site visit evaluation memo. These memos are distributed to your team approximately one month after the site visit, at which point your team has one week to review for factual errors and to offer input into areas where you would be interested in further elaboration. We hope that these memos will provide valuable information to you as you embark on your new programs. If you haven’t already received your memo, please keep an eye out for it!
