Workforce aging in the new economy

Progress Update

March 2010

Our book, Aging and Working in the New Economy, edited by Julie McMullin and Victor Marshall, is now available for pre-order from Edward Elgar Publishing.

In addition to US team leader Victor Marshall’s work as co-editor, the book includes several contributions from the US WANE team. We participated in the following chapters:

1. Introduction: Aging and Working in the New Economy
Julie Ann McMullin and Victor W. Marshall

2. Making a Life in IT: Jobs and Careers in Small and Medium-sized Information Technology Companies
Victor W. Marshall, Jennifer Craft Morgan and Sara B. Haviland

3. New Careers in the New Economy: Redefining Career Development in a Post-internal Labor Market Industry
Sara B. Haviland, Jennifer Craft Morgan and Victor W. Marshall

7. Formal Training, Older Workers, and the IT Industry
Neil Charness and Mark C. Fox

10. Work and the Life Course in a New Economy Field
Victor W. Marshall and Julie Ann McMullin

We continue to analyze the WANE data for presentations and publication. US WANE team members Sara Haviland, Jennifer Craft Morgan, and Victor Marshall presented a paper at the International Labour Process Conference at Rutgers University in March 2010. The paper explored hiring practices and homogeneity in WANE firms.
