NewsCPHAR Postdoc Position AvailableThe Carolina Program in Healthcare and Aging Research (CPHAR), based at the UNC Institute on Aging, announces an opening for a postdoctoral fellowship position this fiscal year. Details about the program and application procedures are available on the CPHAR website. The anticipated start date for the position will be on or around July 1, 2004, but could be a few months later if necessary. Martin Kohli to Visit IOA in Late MayProfessor Martin Kohli, Department of Sociology of the Free University of Berlin, will be a visiting professor at the IOA from May 17th to June 1st, 2004. He will present a seminar at the Institute on May 18th. Read more... IOA to Expand SpaceThe Institute on Aging will be moving into larger space at its main location during the first week in June. The change is in response to a significant expansion of the Institute's various programs, including those of the Center for Aging and Diversity. Read more... Women Growing Older Web Site Has New LookWomen Growing Older, the web site devoted to international health and aging issues of women, has a new look with an easier to use format. All content has now been evaluated and annotated, and resources may be searched by topic or by geographical region. This site is a joint project of the IOA and the University Center for International Studies, and is managed by the IOA Information Center. US AOA Releases Strategic Plan for 2003-2008The new US Administration on Aging Strategic Plan establishes five strategic priorities and related goals and objectives that will be used to focus AoA’s investment of effort and resources over the next five years. The plan is framed by the priorities established by the Assistant Secretary for Aging. Read it... Publisher Donates Books to IOASage Publications recently donated a number of aging and social science texts to the IOA. These items are now available to borrow from the IOA Information Center. Aging-related titles are listed in the 'New Library Resources' column at right. Good News for NC ColleaguesUte Bayen, Ph.D., UNC-CH Associate Professor of Psychology, has been awarded a one-year research fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. She will spend the year at the University of Mannheim in Germany studying eyewitness memory in older adults. Ann Y. McGee, Ed.D., a former Virginia Department on Aging Commissioner who holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from NC State University, has been appointed executive director for the 2005 White House Conference on Aging. The web site for the 18th World Congress of Gerontology, to be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2005, is now live. Note that the deadline for abstract submission is December 31st, 2004. |
Featured Web Site kaiserEDU The Kaiser Family Foundation, a source of health policy analysis and information, has introduced kaiserEDU, a new online resource for the academic community. Aging-related topics covered include Medicare, the nursing shortage, health policy development and social determinants of health. Web site features include issue modules, reference libraries, multimedia tutorials, a syllabus library and emailed content updates. This web site and others have been selected for inclusion in AgeLib, the IOA's Digital Library of aging resources. Search AGELIB now.
