NewsMorgan Wins Impact AwardJennifer Craft Morgan, Research Scientist at the UNC Institute on Aging, has been awarded an IMPACT Award by the Graduate School at UNC Chapel Hill. The award recognizes the significant impact of her doctoral work and related research on improving the jobs of direct care workers in long term care. Read more... Senior Leaders Named for 2004-05The 2004-2005 Class of Senior Leaders has been selected and includes Judith Mansell, Ann Robson and Betty Zimmerman. The Senior Leadership Enhancement Initiative is a program sponsored by the UNC Institute on Aging. This initiative recognizes the importance of older adult leadership in addressing issues affecting citizens, and provides the support necessary to complement the skills and experiences brought by the participants to the program. Read more... NCGC Receives GrantGood news for the North Carolina Gerontology Consortium! The University of North Carolina system Office of the President has just awarded an E-learning grant to the NCGC. The $30,000 grant will provide faculty stipends to develop 3-4 new web-based courses. Careers in Aging Week - April 5-9This week, the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) and The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) are sponsoring the third annual "Careers in Aging Week". Distinguished Lecture Text and Slides on WebNow available for viewing or download from the IOA web site are the text and slides from the most recent Distinguished Lecture, given in January by Betty Mutran. New Tutorial Available to Distance Education StudentsAccessing aging resources at UNC-CH's main campus libraries from home can be a challenge. A new web tutorial, Aging Research from a Distance, provides UNC-CH distance education students with a tool for success. Whether they are searching databases for aging topics, or configuring a home computer to use the UNC-CH proxy server, this tutorial walks distance education students through everything they need to know about using the Chapel Hill campus libraries for aging research. NCSU Online Journal Focuses on Family IssuesThe Forum for Family and Consumer Issues is a free online journal from NC State University focusing on current issues related to families. Issues often deal with aging related topics. Luci Bearon, who is the Aging/Adult Development Specialist in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at NCSU, is on the Executive Board of the journal. Read it here.
