==========================<>============================== NC*AGING e-newsletter #12 a service of the UNC Institute on Aging Information Center November 1, 2001 ==========================<>============================== WORK OF NORTH CAROLINA FACULTY FEATURED IN EDUCATIONAL GERONTOLOGY A number of articles by faculty at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte appeared recently in Educational Gerontology (v. 27, no. 7). GOOD NEWS FOR NC COLLEAGUES Charles F. Longino has been appointed editor of the Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences. Chuck is Director of the Reynolda Gerontology Program, Associate Director of the J. Paul Sticht Center on Aging at Wake Forest University and a member of the Advisory Board for the Institute on Aging. James Mitchell was awarded Fellow status in the Behavioral and Social Sciences section of the Gerontological Society of America. Jim is Professor of Sociology and Family Medicine and Director of the Center on Aging at East Carolina University. He is also Associate Director of Extended Education at the UNC Institute on Aging. INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS On Thursday, November 8, 2001, Duke and UNC upper level undergraduate and graduate students interested in applying for a Leadership in Aging Society Program Internship for the summer of 2002 are invited to attend an Open House from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, Room E, Searle Center, Duke University Medical Center Library. NEW TRAINING PROGRAM FOR PREDOCTORAL STUDENTS AND POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS The UNC Institute on Aging is pleased to announce the establishment of a new research training program. Known as the Carolina Program in Healthcare and Aging Research, it will be based at the Institute on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is supported by a National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Training Grant from the National Institute on Aging. FINDINGS ON LONG TERM CARE WORKFORCE RELEASED The WIN A STEP-UP project at the UNC Institute on Aging has released several findings briefs detailing the final results of three years of research. The project was aimed at examining and improving the situation of frontline caregivers in the long-term care workforce in the state of North Carolina.
