Jennifer Craft Morgan Selected For Inaugural UNC Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development Leadership Program

December 17 , 2009

The entire staff of the Institute on Aging congratulates Dr. Jennifer Craft Morgan, UNC Institute on Aging Associate Director for Research, who has been selected to participate in the inaugural Vice Chancellor for Research and Development (VCRED) Leadership Program. The intent of the leadership program is to encourage professional development and to give participants exposure to a wide range of activities that support research at Carolina. The program brings together a group of staff from several units reporting to the VCRED, to create a cohort of future leaders who will continue their interactions beyond the duration of the Program.

Dr. Morgan received her PhD in Sociology from UNC in 2005. In his letter nominating Dr. Morgan to the Leadership Program, former IOA Director Dr. Victor Marshall said, "In her role as IOA Associate Director for Research, Dr. Morgan has responsibility for all research support and development. This has included our successful "Research Stimulus Grants Program" and our new "Bringing Basic Scientists to Aging" program. She established and leads a research staff mentoring program for all graduate research assistants and other non-student research staff. Through this, and by serving as a model for other researchers at all levels in the IOA research community, she maintains the highest standards for research integrity." In addition, she was selected as the 2009 junior faculty recipient of the Gordon H. DeFriese Career Development in Aging Award by a multi-disciplinary, campus-wide committee.
