December 7 , 2009

Dr. Mary Altpeter, Institute on Aging Interim Co-Director and Director of Healthy Aging Initiatives, is quoted in a News & Observer article, Go-it-alone program eases arthritis. Leigh Callahan, UNC-CH Associate Professor of Medicine, Orthopaedics and Social Medicine and principal investigator for the project, was also interviewed for the story.

The article describes Altpeter and Callahan's research showing that individuals conducting their own exercise program based on the Arthritis Foundation's arthritis exercise workbook, Walk With Ease, got health benefits from the program similar to those that they would gain from a group exercise program.
