2009 Aging Exchange Poster Award Winners Announced

September 28, 2009

The Institute on Aging is pleased to announce the poster presentation winners from the 6th Annual Aging Exchange, held Tuesday, September 15th at the Friday Center, Chapel Hill. Over 200 people attended the event that featured a reception with poster presentations by 25 UNC Chapel Hill graduate students and faculty; presentations of the Gordon H. DeFriese Career Development in Aging Research Awards; and a keynote address by Larry Adelman, Co-Director of California Newsreel and Executive Producer of the award-winning PBS series, "Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?" This year's Aging Exchange was held in conjunction with the national Prevention Research Centers-Healthy Aging Research Network "Promoting Environmental and Policy Change to Support Healthy Aging" Conference.

Through the generous support of our co-sponsors, we were able to award first prizes of $250 and second prizes of $200 to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduate students and postdoctoral fellows; a third prize of $150 was also given to a graduate student. A single prize of $250 was awarded for the best poster in the interdisciplinary research category (sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Center for Aging Research: Uniting Scientists or ICARUS) and the poster that best represents campus-community collaboration and/or care transitions (sponsored by Carol Woods Retirement Center).
