October 12, 2006

The Institute on Aging is pleased to announce the appointment of Ellen C. Schneider as Assistant Director for Communications and Program Relations. Ellen has an MBA and BS in Marketing from Penn State University and an Interdisciplinary Certificate in Aging from UNC-CH. She has worked as the Healthy Aging Program Manager at the IOA since 2004, with an emphasis on evidence-based health promotion and civic engagement. She is also working under contract for the National Council on the Aging (NCOA) to conduct evidence-based health promotion research to gain a better understanding of the barriers and challenges of implementing evidence-based programs.

Prior to joining the IOA, Ellen was the Community Outreach Director for the Center for Volunteer Caregiving, a RWJF-initiated nonprofit organization providing volunteer support and services to older adults and caregivers in Wake County. She also gained extensive communications, marketing, and program relations experience while working as Senior Manager for Nortel for 13 years.

In her capacity as Assistant Director for Communications and Program Relations, Ellen will oversee the IOA's communications and continue to manage health promotion initiatives at the Institute.
