NC Senior Games Encourage Healthy Aging

July 1, 2005

The Institute on Aging is pleased to once again sponsor the NC Senior Games in 2005. The State Finals will be held in Raleigh from September 26 to October 2.

Victor Marshall, Director of the Institute on Aging, said, "We are pleased to support the NC Senior Games as a way to highlight the importance of physical activity for older adults. One of our goals via the NC Healthy Aging Network is to enhance the health and quality of life of older adults, and I think the NC Senior Games does that statewide."

The NC Senior Games is a health promotion and education program for North Carolinians 55 years of age and better. There are over 50,000 participants in 53 Local Games programs that serve all 100 counties across the state.

The State Finals lasts for 16 days and showcases over 3000 registered participants in over 70 sports and arts actvities. Since the inaugural State Finals in 1985 to the present, this event provides individuals, from participants to volunteers, an opportunity to showcase their talents, enjoy being active, renew old skills and learn new ones.
