News ReleaseUniversity of North Carolina Institute on Aging CPHAR Program Announces NEW Support for Two Doctoral StudentsJanuary 24, 2005 The Carolina Program in Healthcare and Aging Research (CPHAR) program, based at the Institute on Aging, announces openings for two predoctoral fellowship positions for the coming fiscal year. Details about the program and application procedures are available on the CPHAR website (no longer available). The anticipated start date for the positions will be on or after May 1, 2005 but could be a few months later if necessary. Funding is for one year with the anticipation of renewal for a second year. Renewal is dependent upon progress of the fellow but also on the success of the CPHAR program in its current application for a five-year renewal. The CPHAR Program draws on the extensive resources of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The special strengths of this training program include the ability to study health and aging issues of older adults in a research intensive, multidisciplinary academic setting in which you will find: a strong commitment to the life course perspective, extensive basic and applied research addressing aging in minority, diverse, and vulnerable populations; concerted research attention to aging in both rural and urban communities; and the strong commitment and track record of UNC Chapel Hill in the areas of health services research, health promotion/disease prevention, and social and behavioral aspects of aging. CPHAR faculty mentors represent a broad array of disciplines from clinical, public health and social sciences sectors of the university. The CPHAR program is supported by a National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Training Grant from the National Institute on Aging. The deadline for application is Monday, March 21, 2005.
