NC Conference on Aging Chosen for Town Hall Listening Session

June 13, 2003

The U.S. Administration on Aging has decided to hold its last Town Hall Listening Session in conjunction with the North Carolina Conference on Aging scheduled for September 10-12, 2003, at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Charlotte. The Town Hall Listening Session will be part of the conference's closing session on Friday, September 12.

North Carolina is honored to have been chosen to host this event. Other sessions have been held in Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Baltimore. The theme of these sessions is "A Caring America: Choices for Independence." After North Carolina's session, the Administration on Aging will hold a National Summit on "Creating Caring Communities," in Orlando, Florida, from September 21-23, 2003.

The U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging, Josefina Carbonell, is using these Town Hall Listening Sessions to hear from older people, their families and caregivers, along with members of the Aging Services Network, on critical issues in caregiving.

The session will include remarks from Assistant Secretary on Aging Josefina Carbonell, an opportunity for individuals to provide testimony, and response from a panel of North Carolina leaders in aging.
