News ReleaseReport Released on Long Term Care WorkforceApril 3, 2002 The WIN A STEP-UP project at the Institute on Aging has released an executive summary report of three years of research. The report makes recommendations for improving the high turnover rates among nursing assistants in the long term care workforce. Recommended steps include better statewide data collection, regular analysis of workforce data, improved benefits for workers, develepment of a career ladder for nursing assistants, and expansion of the WIN A STEP UP program. The WIN A STEP UP (Workforce Improvement for Nursing Assistants: Supporting Training, Education, and Payment for Upgrading Performance) project surveyed certified and uncertified nursing assistants across the state. The research involved a partnership between the Institute on Aging and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Facility Services. It was funded by Kate B.
