News Release

Small grants program cancelled

October 10, 2001

The following is the text of a recent announcement from the Director of the Institute on Aging:

I am sorry to say that we feel it is necessary to cancel the Institute's Small Grants Research Program for this year (i.e., that announced for funding in the spring of 2002).

We have taken this decision in light of a budget cut just received by the Institute, as part of the general budgetary reductions affecting the entire UNC system. We are sorry that we had to arrive at this decision and also that it comes after some of you may well have invested time and energy into the preparation of proposals for the current competition.

The Institute will endeavor to continue to support researchers on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus and across the state through our information and library services; by providing consultation to researchers or to others about research needs and issues; by holding seminars, working groups and lectures; and through our administrative and financial support for the North Carolina Conference on Aging.
