Member Institutions :: UNC PembrokeCampus Web Site:Gerontology Program:http://www.uncp.edu/gerontology/ David Dran, PhD, is the campus contact for The North Carolina Gerontology Consortium and the campus liaison for The Southeastern Gerontology Consortium with UNC Wilmington. He continues research regarding the role of life stories in the care of residential elderly, and is currently studying the changing role of the maturing population in the cultures of Robeson county. Steve Marson, PhD, is the coordinator and campus contact for the Applied Gerontology Minor. The Minor is designed to enhance the student's knowledge base in gerontology for both personal growth and professional advancement. The Minor offers the student understanding of causal linkages between the changes in biological functioning and their psychosocial adaptations. The Minor also addresses the manner in which one can effectively deal with the changes of aging while still maintaining a productive life. Dr. Marson's research interests include incontinence and the elderly, and Durkheim's model of suicide as applied to prevention and treatment for elderly. This year, the Department of Social Work welcomes Young Sohn, Ph.D. Dr. Sohn's interests include the well-being of grandparents in Korean-American families and the comparison between developmental theories of Western and Eastern life. Dr. Sohn is now investigating the assessment of needs for Korean-American middle-aged women in Fayetteville.Campus Representative:David Dran, PhD
