You can also watch these videos through our UNC IOA Vimeo Channel Day 1: Opening Plenary, Wednesday, October 13, 2010Also available: Transcript of the videos from Day 1 (part 1) and (part 2) Several distinguished guests welcomed attendees to the conference. Bill Lamb, Conference Chair, opened the session and introduced Barbara Entwistle, Interim Vice Chancellor for Research at UNC Chapel Hill. Then, Bill Friday introduced Governor Bev Perdue who gave conference attendees her charge for the conference. Finally, Ran Coble, Executive Director, NC Center for Public Policy Research, spoke about the changing demographics in North Carolina.
Day 2: Plenary Luncheon, Thursday, October 14, 2010Also available: Transcript of the videos from Day 2 The theme of this Plenary session was Assessing the State’s Aging Readiness. Pat Capehart Brown, Chair, NC Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging started the Day 2 Plenary off with remarks and introductions. Lanier Cansler, Secretary, NC Dept. of Health and Human Services also gave some remarks and introduced Mary Palmer, Interim Co-Director, Institute on Aging. Dennis W. Streets, Director, NC Division of Aging and Adult Services spoke about efforts to assess the readiness of state agencies to meet the needs of an aging population in North Carolina, and Jennifer Craft Morgan, Associate Director for Research, Institute on Aging, discussed the results of a survey to assess state agency readiness. Finally, a panel of state agency leaders responded to the survey results.
Day 3: Closing Plenary, October 15, 2010Also available: Transcript of the videos from Day 3 In the closing session, the preliminary results of the Conference policy session were presented. State leaders shared their perspective on the aging of North Carolina’s population and responded to the recommendations coming from the policy sessions.
