Services & Policies

Using the Collection

The collection is open during regular business hours (M-F, 8am-5pm). All are welcome to use the collection in-house, although only IOA-affiliated users may borrow materials. Appointments are recommended for external users. Many of our resources are available via the internet and are accessible anytime.

Reference & Instruction

Our staff can provide answers to reference questions on aging-related topics to all users. In-depth reference assistance and instruction is available to IOA-affiliated users. Contact us by email, phone (919-966-9444), or in person. Many helpful reference items are also available via this web site.

Borrowing/Circulation

Borrowing privileges are extended to persons affiliated with the Institute. Most materials in the Information Center may be borrowed; however journals do not circulate out of the building. Items may be borrowed for 4 weeks at a time. Borrowers are responsible for returning the items in a timely manner or they will be charged replacement costs. Look for signs in the library about how to borrow materials. Ask a staff member if you have questions.

Interlibrary Lending

The IOA Information Center does not provide ILL services (this includes borrowing books from other UNC libraries).

Photocopying

A photocopier is available for in-house use. There is no charge for small amounts of copying, but larger amounts will be charged a per page fee.

Document Delivery

Certain in-house items can be delivered to remote users. There is no charge for small requests, but copying and postage charges may apply for larger requests. For IOA staff working on aging projects, we provide document delivery services for journal articles available at the other campus libraries. Turn around time is typically 2-3 business days, longer if the item is not readily available.
