AGING AND HEALTH

About the Course

Aging and Health is a three-credit interdisciplinary course designed to provide students in all disciplines, including graduate students and upper level undergraduates, with a general background in aging and the problems of older persons. As part of its comprehensive curriculum, the course includes presentations by experts from across campus, interactive "experiential" workshops on aspects of aging, use of media (such as film), small group discussion, and preparation of a research paper in an area of interest to the individual student. The course is designed to be relevant to anyone who plans to live or work with older persons, to conduct research in fields related to aging, or to better understand their older relatives and friends, or who expects to be old someday. It is a core course of UNC's interdisciplinary certificate on aging. The course is cross-listed in a variety of departments and schools, including:

epidemiology (EPID 620I)
medicine (MEDI 604)
nursing (NURS 782I)
pharmacy (PHCY 604)
physical therapy (PHYT 904I)
social work (SOWO 604I)
sociology (SOCI 824)
human movement science (HMSC 904I)
