Paul Solomon, PhD

Senior Research Scientist

At the Institute, Dr. Solomon is a Co-Investigator in the WILIS projects.

Dr. Solomon served as a program evaluator in several agencies of the Federal Government and as a Research Consultant for a Federal Contract Research Center prior to joining the Faculty of the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) at UNC in 1991. He recently retired from SILS, following eight years as Associate Dean, Interim Dean, and Senior Associate Dean, and is currently a faculty member in the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Solomon's research focuses on social studies of information in such contexts as schools, government agencies, and universities, and with such populations as children, managers, and the elderly. His teaching most recently has been in the areas of research methods (particularly intensive methods) and user perspectives. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the Pennsylvania State University; an M.B.A. from the University of Washington; and M.L.S. and PhD degrees from the University of Maryland. Dr. Solomon was a Fulbright Professor in Finland during the 1997-1998 academic year. Paul is the author of numerous information and library science publications, many of which have been widely cited and several have been recognized as 'best papers' in the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology. He is an active member of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, and the Academy of Management.
