Sara Haviland, MA

Graduate Research Assistant

Sara Haviland has worked at the Institute on Aging since 2003. She is a doctoral student under the direction of Victor Marshall in the UNC-Chapel Hill sociology department. She received her M.A. in sociology at UNC-CH with her thesis entitled: "The Gender Paradox in Job Satisfaction: An International Perspective” under the direction of Arne Kalleberg. In addition to the Jobs to Careers Evaluation, Sara has conducted research on workforce aging, the IT workforce, international trends in work practices and employee satisfaction, and retention and job quality for the healthcare workforce. Her interest areas include the sociology of work and organizations and the life course perspective. Sara also serves as Program Manager for the US Workforce Aging in the New Economy (WANE) project.

Starting October 1, project manager Sara Haviland will be transitioning out of daily project management and taking on the role of research consultant with the team as she finishes her PhD work. While she will remain a research consultant with the Institute on Aging, she will no longer be located in-house at UNC but rather working remotely from Silver Spring, MD and participating in some of our site visits.
