Janet Freburger, PT, PhD

Scientist

Dr. Freburger is a Scientist at the Institute on Aging. She is also a Research Associate and Fellow at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research and holds adjunct faculty appointments in the Division of Physical Therapy and the Program in Human Movement Science.

Dr. Freburger has a clinical and academic background in physical therapy. She received a BS in physical therapy from the University of Maryland (1985) and an MS in physical therapy/biomechanics from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) (1990). She was a full-time faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy, Medical College of Virginia, VCU (1990-1997) and the Division of Physical Therapy, UNC (1998-2000). She obtained her PhD in Health Services Organizations and Research from the Medical College of Virginia in 1998. Since that time she has primarily focused on conducting research on the access to, utilization of, and effectiveness of rehabilitation services.

Dr. Freburger has received two stimulus grant awards from the IOA and is currently working on an NIH funded project, Disparities in Post-Acute Rehabilitation Care, that was developed with these stimulus grant funds.
