Dr. Edwards received his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Morehouse College in 1980 (Phi Beta Kappa) with minors in physics and economics, a masters in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Maryland - College Park in 1982, and a Ph.D. in Biostatistics in 1990 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lloyd J. Edwards, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Biostatistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His statistical research interests include mixed model theory and application, longitudinal data analysis, and the design and analysis of clinical trials and observational studies. He has an extensive background in collaborating with subject-specific researchers in a broad range of areas in biomedical research. As Head of Statistical Support for the UNC Institute on Aging, Dr. Edwards provides statistical assistance in the design of basic research experiments, clinical trials and observational studies, computerized database management, analysis of basic and complex data, statistical review of grants and protocols, development of manuscripts and presentations, and coordination of innovative web-based solutions to storing and disseminating project information. His affiliation with the UNC Department of Biostatistics also provides the Institute on Aging access to state-of-the-art statistical computing and information technology solutions. Dr. Edwards has co-authored several publications with IOA researchers and helped to successfully obtain project funding as senior biostatistician.
