Malcolm Cutchin, PhD

Senior Research Scientist

Dr. Malcolm Cutchin is an Associate Professor in the Division of Occupational Science, in the Department of Allied Health Sciences, School of Medicine, at UNC. He received a BA in Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin and a MA and PhD in Geography at the University of Kentucky. He previously held appointments at Middlebury College (Geography) and the University of Texas Medical Branch (Occupational Therapy and Sealy Center on Aging).

Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, Dr. Cutchin’s aging research focuses on older adults’ transactions with their environments and the processes that enhance well-being in lifecourse and housing transitions. His research has been funded by the National Institute on Aging and the National Cancer Institute, and he has published in journals such as the Journal of Gerontology Social Sciences, International Journal of Aging and Human Development, Social Science and Medicine, Health & Place, and Journal of Housing for the Elderly.
