IOA StaffGracie Boswell, PhDResearch ScientistGracie E.H. Boswell, Ph.D. is a Research Scientist at the Institute on Aging. Gracie came to the Institute as a Carolina Program in Health and Aging Research postdoctoral fellow from 2003 – 2005. Her research interests have addressed how the well-being of older adults, living with chronic illnesses, has been influenced by religion, spirituality and lifestyle behaviors. She has also written on cultural diversity and aging. In addition, she has worked as a research consultant on a project to determine the genetic link to Alzheimer’s in African Americans through NC A&T State University from 2005- 2007. Her current goals are to increase publications and to expand her research interests in spirituality and aging. The new broader focus will be accomplished by conducting life reviews of individuals living with late stage cancer for both the therapeutic benefit to the participants and the contribution to science. Gracie received both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Sociology, with certification in Gerontology from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She received the Marie Haug excellence in Aging Studies Award. Her work was funded by Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and the NIA.
