MissionThe North Carolina General Assembly created the Institute on Aging in August 1996, placed it under the general umbrella of the 16-campus University of North Carolina System and based it at the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. The IOA is positively affecting the well-being of North Carolina older adults through numerous projects and programs. Many of the IOA’s initiatives integrate research, education, and/or service to address our mission of enhancing the well-being of older people in North Carolina. GovernanceThe Institute on Aging reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research.
