About the IOA

The Institute on Aging works to enhance the well-being of older North Carolinians through statewide collaboration in research, education, and public service.

The IOA works through its statewide linkages to achieve its mission. Faculty who work with the Institute represent a broad array of disciplines including: medicine, nursing, dentistry, social work, law, public health, allied health, sociology, pharmacy, psychology, education, public administration, and the basic biomedical sciences.

You can learn more about our goals by reading our Director's Inaugural Lecture. The Institute supports the Declaration of the Rights of Older Persons, published in conjunction with the 2002 World Assembly on Aging.
