Governance and LeadershipUNC System and UNC Chapel HillThe Director of the Institute on Aging reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development. Reflecting the fact that the Institute is an Inter-institutional Program of the UNC system, the Director also reports indirectly to the office of the president of the UNC system. Statewide Advisory CouncilFor advice and guidance concerning its statewide mission, the Institute convenes a Statewide Advisory Council (formerly Committee) that includes representation from the field of aging, public service programs, and other academic institutions in North Carolina. This council provides guidance and assistance to the Institute to facilitate university-wide planning in aging by providing leadership, consultation, and systematic assessments of the state’s existing resources for aging. List of SAC members: html | pdf Director's GroupFor advice and guidance concerning its mission specific to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Director has established the Director’s Group. This is a leadership group comprised of program directors and others in the Institute. Current members are listed in the Senior Administrative Staff section of our Staff page. NC Gerontology ConsortiumFor leadership in statewide educational development, the Institute administratively supports the North Carolina Gerontology Consortium. This entity is established under the authority of the UNC System and governed by a committee of members from its nine participating institutions. It elects its own chair, but receives administrative and financial support from the Institute on Aging and has on its board a representative of the Institute on Aging.
